The Steelers are out of the playoffs due to their own doing. No excuses. Still, if they hadn't lost their best defensive player, might they be preparing for the AFC Championship Game Sunday? There's evidence to suggest that might be true. Either way, they're going to have to find someone to fill Ryan Shazier's sizable shoes. I've got some info on which FA's will be out there, plus the best available in the draft.
They also are going to have to shore up another element of their defense, and it's more than just ILB or the secondary. Scout Matt Williamson will join me at 1:30 to offer his thoughts, and predict this weekend's games.
Another big question: What to do with Le'Veon Bell? I say they need him in order to remain a legitimate Super Bowl contender. In fact, their run game MUST be better overall. Not good enough, and they'll need him in order for the entire run game to improve.
A very nice bounce back from the Penguins last night. Phil Bourque will join me at 12:30 from LA as the Pens get set to move on to San Jose tomorrow night.
Why would the Pirates cut payroll, then sign Felipe Rivero to a backloaded contract? Is it because they'll always trade someone BEFORE they start getting the bigger bucks (not Bucs) at the end of that contract?
One last item today. January 19th, 1976 marked my first day on the air in Pittsburgh. So today, I begin my 43rd year of broadcasting here in the Burgh. What a ride it's been!
