It wasn’t a fine season for the two-time Stanley Cup winner. Matt Murray managed just an .899 save percentage in the regular season.
Fans and analysts alike have seen inconsistent play from the Penguins netminder over the course of the last few years.
Not last night. Murray was terrific.
With 1:05 gone in the second period, Murray’s oft-maligned glove hand robbed Joel Armia on a deflection attempt from on the doorstep.
14 seconds into the third period, Murray stoned Tomas Tatar, again in tight, on a two-on-one.
All told, Murray stopped 26 of 27 shots and 13 of 14 in the third period. He outplayed Carey Price.
So, pull up a chair Muzz, and I’ll pour you a Guinness. You deserve it.
