33-year-old Clay Matthews is a free agent. The Steelers need help at linebacker. A match made in heaven? Probably not.
Chris Carter of DKPittsburghSports.com said yesterday on ESPN Pittsburgh that the Steelers may be interested in the former Packer.
Hey, nothing is impossible, but I just don't see it.
I texted The Athletic's Mark Kaboly yesterday to discuss this matter. He said that the Steelers rarely sign players over 30 in free agency, so it's unlikely to happen.
I don't like the reasoning. Just because it doesn't happen often, doesn't mean it can't happen. The Steelers have had a first round pick for the last 53 years. They don't this year. So, never say never.
The reason the Steelers won't sign Matthews is because he doesn't play special teams. It's tough to have a backup linebacker who doesn't contribute that way.
