This weekend, the Steelers tweeted out a video of Ben Roethlisberger lobbing a football on a basketball court. Steelers fans young and old rejoiced!
I think Thomas Davis, who said that Ben could have come back last year, believes this video was shot in October. What a Dick…Tarnstrom.
FYI, all you have to do to validate when this video was taken is look at the length of Ben’s beard. It’s a tad longer than when Roethlisberger went to the WVU game two weeks ago. CONFIRMED.
Thomas Davis, Chris Canty, Nick Wright, and some dude from Bleacher Report, all think the Steelers would be better without Ben.
First, if the Steelers cut Ben, they’d save only 8.5 million dollars against the cap. If they sign Dupree, which they will, then they won’t have money to bring in a veteran QB.
Anybody suggesting the Steelers want Ben to retire are off base and just trying to stir the pot. The Steelers have won six Super Bowls. They’ve done so with two quarterbacks. Nobody should be wishing away Roethlisberger’s time here.
As for anyone worrying about him ever playing at his highest level again? Well, I don’t think he will, but I don’t think he needs to. He doesn’t need to put up 30 points per game. He doesn’t need to throw for 5,000 yards or 35 touchdowns.
The Steelers defense gave up 18.9 points per game last year. They were top-five in every major statistical category. I can’t think of a reason why they won’t be really good on that side of the ball again next year.
It’s reasonable to think that Devin Bush and Minkah Fitzpatrick are going to get better. T.J. Watt is now a super star. Tuitt will be back. This defense can repeat its effort as one of the most fearsome in the league, and should they do that, then Ben just needs to be above average.
Steelers are 121-20 when Ben plays and the defense holds the opposition to 21 points or less. They don’t need MVP-caliber Ben, they need Ben to not be Duck Hodges or Mason Rudolph. They need him to convert third downs and be good in the red zone.
The Steelers gave up 21 or fewer points 10 times this year. They lost three of those games. The importance of getting Ben back can’t be overstated. Those who are pooh-poohing it or saying that they shouldn’t want him back have an agenda.
