Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing

According to reports, the NFL is planning on expanding the regular season and the playoffs as part of the new CBA agreement.

As Americans and Pittsburghers, football is part of our culture and our DNA. More football is a good thing, right?

Wrong.

You can never have too much sex. I don't think anybody around here would complain about getting more sunny days, but more football? Pass.

By expanding the regular season, I think each game will matter just a little bit less. A team that starts 0-3 or 1-4, like this year's Steelers, will still have a good shot of making the playoffs. That's too much margin for error. I don't like it.

I've heard, "you can't have too much of a good thing." Eh, I think the NFL expanding the regular season is like having too many alcoholic beverages.

There's a sweet spot. I like having just enough to drink to get a nice, deep, warm buzz. There's a line, though. If you have too many beers, maybe you pee down the stairs, or call an ex, or eat an entire pizza all by yourself.

If you have too few beers, well it's just empty calories.

I think the NFL is in the sweet spot right now. 16 games, 12 playoff teams, and the top-two seeds get byes. The league shouldn't mess with success. We don't need too much of a good thing.
