Jameson Taillon has been on the IL since May 2nd. He still hasn't thrown a baseball, and isn't expected to do so for another 10-14 days.
It's possible that Jameson Taillon may need to have his second Tommy John surgery. Through the perceived strength of their starting rotation, the Pirates were supposed to have a shot to compete this year.
Jordan Lyles had fallen back down to Earth before his injury. Chris Archer has been bad. Joe Musgrove has been uneven.
Without Jameson Taillon, the Pirates don't have a prayer. If he needs Tommy John, he will miss this year and most, if not all, of next.
The Pirates should sell. Get the biggest packages possible for Starling Marte, Felipe Vazquez, and Melky Cabrera. The Pirates have been in purgatory the last few years. They haven't been an awful baseball team, but haven't been good either.
Well, without their ace pitcher, they won't be competitive. It's better to lean into that fact and try to rebuild then sit idly by and hope that the guys that they have can pull them through.
