Penguins musings after Devils win

Phil Kessel is playing bad hockey:

--Am I allowed to say that? Should I proceed?

--He committed a penalty.

--He flubbed the puck and it led to a New Jersey goal. He didn’t register a shot.

--Kessel has no goals in his last 10 games. He’s on a freaking milk carton.

--Side note, putting faces on milk cartons in 2019 would be the least effective way possible to find a missing person.

Matt Murray wasn’t good:

--That’s back to back games he hasn’t played well in. Got the win and stopped 33 of 36, but the last goal was HORRENDOUS.

--The first goal wasn’t great either as he was slow going from right to left. Although, later in the game he got over and appeared to make a good save on a similar chance.

--When Murray is good, he’s really good. The last two have been clunkers, though.

Evgeni Malkin is going right:

--He had a goalie interference penalty because he murdered Kinkaid. That shows me he’s going to the net and playing Evgeni Malkin hockey.

The 4th line played well, but I’d keep changing it up:

--No Teddy Blueger or Garrett Wilson. Instead it was Pearson and Simon.

--I think Mike Sullivan can keep dangling the carrot. Who wants to be in the lineup?

-- They were effective on Tuesday. Simon was strong on pucks, Pearson was noticeable.

--Blueger has been great every time out. Wilson can be a real pain in the ass to play against.

It makes a difference to have 3 right handed d-men in the lineup:

--Ruhwedel threw 4 pucks to the net and scored a curve-ball goal. Sick.

--Jack Johnson stinks (sorry GMJR). He stinks less on his left, though. Justin Schultz is really good and may be able to bring out the best in Johnson.

--The Penguins don’t have anyone quite like him aside from Letang, obviously. That’s not to say he’s better than Dumoulin. He is better offensively.

It was huge for the Penguins to beat the Devils.

--This isn't the 2000 version of the club. They play with speed and are tenacious on the forecheck. They've been banged up this year, but they have an identity and are hard to play against. The Pens need two points every time they take they ice. They got a couple of big ones on Tuesday.
