Yesterday's game was a huge one for the Penguins. Matt Murray knew it. Matt Murray played like it.
50 saves, and should have had the shutout if it weren’t for Malkin’s penalty.
This is what Murray does. When the stakes are high, he kicks ass.
In the 2016 Stanley Cup Final, Murray had a .920 save percentage. Baller.
In the 2017 Stanley Cup Final, Murray had 2 shut outs and a save percentage of .931. Stud.
Murray plays his best when there's a lot on the line. Last night, there was. The Flyers could have lifted themselves into the playoff race. The Penguins could have left the door open for the Sabres to tie them or the 'Canes to pass them. They got two points, because Murray has a flair for the dramatic.
There weren’t as many quality chances as 51 shots may suggest, but stopping 50 of them is pretty damn impressive.
It’s why the dude needs to stay healthy. All due respect to Casey DeSmith, there’s no way he stops 50 shots. None.
When the stakes are high, I trust this dude to give the Penguins the best chance to win.
