To hit or not to hit, that is the question

As Ramon Foster sat on the field in pain, his teammates knelt around him and prayed that he would be okay. Luckily for the Steelers, their prayers were answered.

Steelers team president, Art Rooney II, said yesterday on Steelers Live that Foster is expected to be back at the start of the regular season. Feel free to exhale now, Steelers nation.

Inevitably, scares like this beg the question: Is Mike Tomlin's training camp too physical?

My answer is no. Ramon Foster's injury could have happened at mini-camp or OTA's. It was a passing play and he got his knee rolled up on as the pocket collapsed. Nothing can prevent a play like that from happening.

Sean Davis, T.J. Watt, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Vance McDonald did not finish practice yesterday. But, we see soft-tissue injuries happen all the time early in training camps all around the league.

The Steelers were one of the worst tackling teams in the National Football League last year. How can you get better if you don't practice tackling?

Kevin Colbert has been on with me several times over the years. He always brings up this boxing analogy-- How can a boxer prepare for a fight if he never has a sparring partner? If he gets in the ring without seeing live punches, he's going to get his butt kicked.

The same goes in football. If you don't tackle, you can't get better. Mike Tomlin runs camp the way it should be run.
