There's an "or" listed between Max Browne and Ben DiNucci on this week's Pitt football depth chart, but the biggest question for Pitt is this...Are they going to play defense OR not?
Max Browne wasn't the teams biggest issue in their beatdown against Oklahoma State. He was 7 for 10 and unable to lead a touchdown drive, sure. But he could have led 6 touchdown drives in a row and still been losing by 7. DiNucci threw for 228 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. You may think he's good, but he's not. DiNucci had offers from two football programs. TWO. Pitt and Penn. NOT Penn State...PENN. Not exactly Alabama and Ohio State.
Swapping QB's won't fix the Panther's offense. Even if it did, the biggest issue is the Panthers defense. According to Craig Meyer from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pitt has given up 39.7 points per game in its last 13 games against power 5 schools. That's unacceptable. And it's happening with suppposed defensive mastermind Pat Narduzzi at the helm.
Pitt's defense is the problem. Max Browne or Ben DiNucci? Hell, even Dan Marino couldn't turn this thing around.
