UPDATED: Daily Allegheny County COVID-19 Update - May 22nd

The PA Dept. of Health held a press update today at 4:00p. A few notes from the briefing are below. You can watch the full live stream below.

Gov. Wolf

  • We've succeeded in slowing the growth and were able to save lives.
  • The stay at home order did what it was intended to do, save lives.
  • The new daily case rate is shrinking. From May 8th through May 15th, it was cut in half. And by a third from May 15th through yesterday.
  • Since May 8th, the number of daily lab tests has increased by 65%.
  • Testing is available at more than 300 locations across the state.
  • As of this morning, 49 counties have moved into in the Yellow Phase of mitigation.
  • The remaining Red Counties should be ready to move into the Yellow Phase by June 6th.
  • At 12:01am on Friday, May 29th, 17 counties will move into the Green Phase. Those include:
    • Bradford, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mckean, Montour, Potter, Snyder, Sullivan, Tyoga, Venango, and Warren.
  • Moving into the Green Phase will still require precautions to keep our families and communities safe.
  • While these counties will see a return to near normalcy, some restrictions will remain in place.
    • All businesses may resume operations, including restaurants and bars, many will have reduced capacity.
    • Large entertainment gatherings such as concerts, festivals, or sporting events will continue to be restricted.
    • Telework is encouraged where possible.
    • Guidance from the CDC must continue to be observed. 
    • Masks must continue to be worn in public.
    • Full guidance for those counties will be released next week.

Dr. Levine

  • As of 12 am, 66,253 Pennsylvanians have tested positive for #COVID19.
  • NEW DATA - 57% of these cases have recovered from the virus.
  • 481 patients who have positive anti-body test - These are considered probable cases.
  • To date, there have been 4,981 deaths.
  • The first 24 counties that moved to the Yellow Phase have been monitored closely since their change. 17 of those have been able to maintain positive metrics proving their readiness to move to the Green Phase.

Allegheny County Health Department released their daily update for COVID-19 cases in the area.

As of this morning, there are 21 new cases in the county with a total of 1,739 cases (confirmed or probable). 314 of those cases (past or present) have required hospitalization. Out of those 314, one-hundred-twenty-five have been admitted to the ICU with sixty-seven requiring the use of a ventilator. There have been 146 deaths. 27,118 test have been administered.
