Re: The Steelers’ backfield tandem of Cheech & Chong.

Here’s what doesn’t matter:

*Ray Rice only got suspended two games for knocking out his wife. NOT RELEVANT. The penalty for domestic abuse has not been collectively bargained by the NFL and the NFLPA. But there is a drug policy. Le’Veon Bell and the ironically-name LeGarrette Blount could be banned for up to four games. Bell will likely get one. Blount may not get any. There’s a report he wasn’t charged.

*Yes, a lot of NFL players smoke pot. Yes, pot should be legal. Yes, pot is legal in some states. NOT RELEVANT. According to NFL policy, marijuana is a banned substance. Every player knows it. Cheech & Chong know it. Even if 99.9% of the NFL smokes pot, it’s Bell and Blount who got arrested.

Here’s the real issue:

Cheech & Chong’s actions show total lack of respect for their teammates and the Steelers’ organization. They personify selfish.

Getting stoned in a car = HIGH SCHOOL. Smoke in your luxury condo. Just keep it out of sight. Even Eric Forman and the gang knew to do it in the basement. And definitely don't drive under the influence.

This isn’t a drug problem. This isn’t a character problem. It’s a STUPID problem.

What do the Steelers do now? In 2008, when Santonio Holmes got busted for pot, he got deactivated for a game. Do the Steelers break that precedent? Or do they face Cleveland in the opener without their top two running backs?

We don’t know. Only one thing seems certain: Coach Mike Tomlin will blame the media.
