PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University head football coach Jerry Schmitt announced the addition of 17 student-athletes to the Dukes football program today.
The incoming class spans the country, covering eight states ranging from Maryland to Florida to Nevada and California.
This is the sixth season Duquesne has offered scholarships in the sport of football in the modern era.
"This years' recruiting class brings a combination of athletic ability, football acumen, post-grad experience and academic achievement to our program," said head coach Jerry Schmitt. "Although not a large class by number, the staff pinpointed specific needs and worked to find quality student-athletes.
"We welcome a group that shares the philosophies of our University and will be a good fit with our current players. The staff is looking forward to working with them as we prepare for the 2013 season."
The 2013 season will be Duquesne's sixth as an associate football-playing member of the Northeast Conference.
The Dukes, who return 13 starters - six on offense and seven on defense - from last year's team, open four weeks of spring practice on March 18. The annual spring game will take place on Saturday, April 20 on Rooney Field.
The time of the spring game is to be announced.
